The benefits of coconut oil

L 'coconut oil comes from coconuts matured picked from the coconut palms. Since a couple of years coconut oil has found new life and new uses.

But what is the coconut oil and which properties hiding?

There is little research into the health benefits of coconut oil consumption of other fats. However, the virgin coconut oil is preferable to highly processed hydrogenated margarines and oils, even if the content of saturated fat is high.
Furthermore, coconut oil contains high levels of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). MCFAs are metabolized differently – absorbed and utilized in the liver as an energy source.

Coconut oil is one of the richest sources of saturated fat; about 90% compared to the butter to about 50%. Saturated fats have long been seen as a risk factor for high cholesterol and heart disease. This is because it is saturated fats that raise LDL cholesterol levels. Two tablespoons of coconut oil contains about 25 grams of saturated fat.

Weight loss
A 9kcal / gram, fats are the most calorie dense foods to level. Therefore consume large amounts of any fat / oil, whether it be from a coconut or another source, may lead to an increase of energy and weight, if you go over the recommended daily amount. The fats should be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet. EFSA did not find sufficient evidence that the MCFAs present in coconut oil can reduce the body weight.

There are some studies that suggest that the consumption of coconut oil can have an impact on satiety, thereby reducing our appetite. This has been linked to MCFAs and its metabolism in the liver.

Cooking with coconut oil
The coconut oil has a higher point of combustion and longer than some other fats. If you choose the flavored varieties, you can add a flavor of coconut cooking. As is solid at room temperature, it can be used for baking, frying and as a substitute for butter or vegetable oil required in the recipes.
